Navigating Your US Student Visa in 2024

You may be aware that the US Consulate General in Hyderabad has issued a statement that declared that the student visa season has been extended by two weeks. The choice was made in order to guarantee that the students whose interviews take place later in the season will show up in time for the commencement of their program. Interviews for student visas will now take place through the end of August.

Students can apply for student visas on Form I-20 up to 365 days in advance of the start date of their course of study. Once the visa is approved, they have 30 days to travel. The F-1 visa is for academic students, while the M-1 visa is for vocational students.

The first step in applying for a student visa is to pay the Form I-901 SEVIS fee. To obtain F-1, F-3, M-1, M-3, and J-1 visa status, prospective nonimmigrants must submit the I-901 Fee using Form I-901. For a spouse or dependent child on an F-2, M-2, or J-2 visa, there is no payment required.

Students should have gotten their admissions letter by now if they are excited to begin their studies at the US university of their choice. Admission letters for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 intakes have begun to be sent by US colleges to prospective students.

After being accepted into an institution recognized by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), international students will get a Form I-20 from their designated school official (DSO). The Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, Form I-20, is necessary for all F and M students studying in the US.
