New MATES Scheme Offers Residency Opportunities in Australia

Recently, the Government of Australia has started the MATES or Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme for Indians.

The MATES program was initiated under the Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement (MMPA). It is a bilateral framework for two-way migration.

Indians whose age is 30 or below, who have a bachelor’s degree, and who can speak good English are eligible for the program.

Young Indian professionals can do a job and get permanent residency in Australia with the program.

Eligibility of The MATES Program:

  • Age not exceeding 30 at the application time
  • Have English Speaking proficiency
  • Have graduated within 2 years
  • Holding minimum a Bachelor’s degree

The Bachelor’s Degree must have in:

  • Renewable Energy
  • Mining
  • Engineering
  • ICT
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Financial Technology
  • Agricultural Technology

The participants can live and work in Australia for up to 2 years. The first time a visa holder enters Australia, they will get 12 months to stay in Australia and they can stay for 24 months after that. Another positive provision of the visa is it will allow multiple entries to Australia.

From the latter half of 2024, the MATES program will open applications for 3,000 places per year for Indian citizens. Budget Australia 2024 has announced that the visa will have a pre-application (ballot) charge of $25 and an application charge of $365.
